A response to Barbara DeGenevive

“three jurors”

“They called my porn art”

“TEXTS TEXTS SEXTS TEXTS”

“Three Jurors” (mixed media on wood) is a triptych of the three jurors of this exhibition as naked, exhibited bodies. This piece was made to take a mirror to the jury and critique the only people who are almost always shielded from critique in art.
“They Called My Porn Art” (collage on reclaimed frame) shows an amalgam of bodies that uses the first prompt (Body and Excesses…) to call back to when DeGenevieve said that her art was called porn, turning her quote on its head.
“TEXTS TEXTS SEXTS TEXTS” (iPhone Screenshots) is a piece from the perspective of Barbara DeGenevieve to each of the jurors that devolves quickly into sexting. It speaks on the sexual nature of DeGenevieve’s work using the constructed persona/confabulation prompt and turning it against itself and the jury that chose it.

About why i did this (i think that her artwork is unethical not because of the sexual nature of it, but because of how she blatantly takes advantage of disenfranchised people, notably homeless people.
